Ernie Els has added another golf course design notch to his belt with the creation of the new Oleada Golf Links Los Cabos. This latest addition to the premier golf-and-fishing destination in Mexico’s Baja Peninsula is set to open in early 2026 and will be Els’ first golf course in Mexico. The 7,336-yard links-style course will be located 15 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas and will offer public play for its first year before going resort-private. It will be accessible only to property owners and resort guests at the developing 860-acre oceanfront resort community, Oleada Pacific Living & Golf.
Els, who has won 75 professional tournaments worldwide, including four majors, envisions a core golf course that harmonizes with nature, drapes naturally on the land, steps lightly on nature’s toes, and functions as an environmental steward of the site’s indigenous flora and fauna. The course will feature 79 acres of irrigated turf, 15 holes built in or on the oceanfront dunes, and a fun combination of five par 5s and five par 3s. Every hole will provide golfers with an ocean view, allowing them to catch sight of whales breeching in the Pacific Ocean during their migratory journey.

Federico Gaxiola, the project director at Oleada Pacific Living & Golf, touts the course as the only true “links” in Cabo. While Els has yet to choose the grass, which will determine if the course plays similarly to a traditional links, Gaxiola believes the Seashore Paspalum is a popular choice in Cabo. To keep up with the competition in Cabo, all-inclusive comfort stations will be built around the course to provide golfers with all the food and drink they could want.
Full resort development plans include real estate offerings, three resorts, a nursery, orchard, and garden, nature, fitness, hiking, and biking trails, and much more. The three on-site resorts have yet to be named.
Cabo has been a hotbed of work for player-architects for more than three decades, and Gaxiola believes there is still room for more golf courses. The new Oleada Golf Links Los Cabos will undoubtedly be a welcome addition to the already impressive list of golf courses in the area.
