MAYAKOBA welcomes world’s best players

As we close in on two weeks to go until the 14th edition of Mexico’s pioneering PGA TOUR event, the strongest field in the tournament’s history is shaping up. Powered by commitments from World No. 1 and current Masters champion Dustin Johnson and the third-ranked player in the world Justin Thomas, Mayakoba welcomes world’s best players.

Mexican stars Carlos Ortiz and Abraham Ancer have also been confirmed. Other marquee commitments include Rickie Fowler, Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland, Cameron Champ, Brandt Snedeker, Billy Horschel and many others.

Reigning champion Brendon Todd is one of six past champions scheduled to compete this year, along with Patton Kizzire (2018), Pat Perez (2016), Graeme McDowell (2015), Charley Hoffman (2014) and Brian Gay (2008).

Officials from Mayakoba and the Mayakoba Golf Classic have announced a new partnership with UNIFIN, a leader in Mexico’s financial sector, to join the family of sponsors of the pioneering PGA TOUR event in Mexico. The 14th edition of the tournament will be renamed as the Mayakoba Golf Classic presented by UNIFIN and will take place from November 30 to December 6 at El Camaleón Golf Club in Mayakoba, Riviera Maya.

Through the new union, UNIFIN has recognized the value of partnering with the PGA TOUR and its historic first official event to have taken place outside of the United States or Canada. The Mayakoba Golf Classic annually attracts the best golfers in the world to Mexico; and with an international television audience covering more than 220 countries and territories, provides invaluable exposure for the important tourist destination of Cancun and Riviera Maya. UNIFIN joins a family of supporters, which is led by Mayakoba and its ownership group RLH Properties. Mayakoba and its annual tournament also enjoy tremendous support from the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council and Tequila Patrón.

“It is an honor and a pleasure to announce the partnership between UNIFIN and Mayakoba; and to welcome UNIFIN to the Mayakoba Golf Classic family,” said Borja Escalada, CEO of RLH Properties. “UNIFIN, just like Mayakoba, is committed to the growth of golf in Mexico. Today, golf in Mexico is enjoying its greatest moment ever thanks to incredible talents like Carlos Ortiz and Abraham Ancer, but also because of the support of companies like UNIFIN. We are delighted with this new partnership and we know that the 2020 Mayakoba Golf Classic presented by UNIFIN will be the best edition in all of our 14 years.”

Mayakoba Golf Classic

MAYAKOBA welcome world’s best players and for more than 25 years, UNIFIN has promoted the development of golf in Mexico, through its participation in various tournaments and by sponsorship of the most promising and successful Mexican golf professionals on the international stage. This year, two ambassadors of the “UNIFIN Golf Team” will participate at Mayakoba—Carlos Ortiz, the first Mexican in 42 years to win on the PGA TOUR, and Abraham Ancer, winner of the Emirates Australian Open in 2018.

“We are very proud to be part of the PGA TOUR’s Mayakoba Golf Classic and to enjoy the play of our successful representatives, Carlos Ortiz and Abraham Ancer,” said Rodrigo Lebois Mateos, President of UNIFIN. “We have decided to support Mexican talent, players who seek to triumph, who are leaders and who make history.”
