Jiménez Captures Hoag Classic Title in Newport Beach

Miguel Ángel Jiménez at Hoag Classic

Newport Beach, CA – On a breezy Sunday afternoon at Newport Beach Country
Club, Miguel Ángel Jiménez proved that experience and precision still reign
supreme on the PGA TOUR Champions. The 61-year-old Spaniard, known for his
smooth swing and love of a good cigar, outlasted a strong field to claim the 2025
Hoag Classic title with a steady final-round 67, finishing at 15-under par for the
tournament.
Jiménez started the day tied with fan-favorite Fred Couples, but it was his steady
play that made the difference. With a bogey-free round, Jiménez methodically picked
apart the course, dropping crucial birdies on the back nine to stay ahead of a
charging Stewart Cink and Freddie Jacobson, who both finished just one shot
back.
“I love playing here—the fans, the course, everything about Newport Beach,”
Jiménez said, flashing his trademark grin. “I just stayed patient, made my shots, and
enjoyed the walk. Today was a good day.”
The win marks Jiménez’s 15th career victory on the PGA TOUR Champions and
his second of the season, solidifying his spot atop the Charles Schwab Cup
standings.
As the sun set over the Pacific, Jiménez celebrated the victory in his signature
style—with a fine Vegas Robaina Clasicos. Jiménez has often been seen enjoying
one after a round, pairing it with a glass of Rioja wine to celebrate his victories. For
the thousands of fans who turned out to watch, it was a picture-perfect finish to
another great week at the Hoag Classic.

Looking Ahead
With another trophy in hand, Jiménez now sets his sights on the next stop on the
PGA TOUR Champions circuit, The Galleri Classic Presented by Spotlight 29 Casino
in Rancho Mirage. But for Newport Beach, this year’s Hoag Classic will be
remembered as the day a veteran showed the young guns that he’s still got plenty
left in the tank.
